FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Tryouts are typically held the first weekend in August for the following season. Tryouts do not occur while teams are still playing league and tournament games which generally finish by the end of July.

We hold a make-up tryout in mid- to late- August for those that are unavailable for our primary tryout event. However, teams can fill up fast so we strongly encourage prospective players to try their best to attend the main tryout date.

If you have just moved to the area please reach out and we will work with you to schedule a tryout for your child.

For kids in high school we want kids playing "on grade" or higher. This means if your child is a freshman they would be on grade on our 15U team, sophomores would play 16U, and juniors and seniors would play 18U.

For younger teams we encourage players to still be on grade. However, exceptions can be made for younger players based on their current development. The coaches at Narrows will provide honest feedback about what team is the best fit for your player based on their current age, development, and baseball skill level.

Our offseason training program begins towards the end of October and runs through December. This program consists of a weekly long-toss program and speed and agility training.

Pitchers will begin throwing bullpens in December at our indoor facility and team practices will begin in January.

Youth teams (10U-14U) will begin playing games in March and run through July. High school teams break for the high school season and pick back up at its conclusion. They will play a busy summer schedule from mid-May through the end of July.

Our 13U and 14U teams play in the Seattle Elite League. Our high-school aged teams play in the Northwest Showcase League which is an invite only league of some of the regions top programs.

All Narrows teams play in Gold, Majors, or Premier divisions for both leagues and tournaments.

The number of tournaments played varies by age.

  • 10U-12U play approximately 8 tournaments in addition to league play.
  • 13U-14U play approximately 10-11 tournaments in addition to league games.
  • 15U-18U play approximately 7-9 tournaments in addition to league games.

For high school aged teams, the schedule can be demanding. Players should expect to play 5 or more games per week.

We play a wide range of events, including those offered by the Seattle Elite League, GSL, West Coast Premier, and Perfect Game. The 18U Premier team plays a highly competitive set of tournaments geared towards the highest level of competition in the region.

The vast majority of games will be played locally. Each team develops their own tournament schedule which may include 1-2 overnight trips to Oregon or Eastern Washington. In addition, teams may plan for a longer trip involving extended travel, but such events are limited.

Roster size varies based on the age group. For our 10U-13U teams we typically like to carry 13 players while our 14U team carries 14 players. For high school aged teams roster size can vary significantly depending on the number of pitchers available.

Regardless of roster size, coaches ensure that all players receive adequate playing time. The main priority at Narrows is player development and we believe that players must be on the field in order to develop.

Indoor practices are held at the Gig Harbor Baseball and Sports Academy located in Gig Harbor. Outdoor practices are typically held at Sehmel Homestead Park, Peninsula High School, or Gig Harbor High School.

Home games are typically played at Sehmel Homestead Park or one of the local High Schools. Away games ca be played anywhere along the I-5 corridor between Olympia and Bellevue.

Roster fees cover all player expenses except for any needed travel. Players receive a uniform package and a gear bag. Players also have unlimited use of the indoor academy during business hours.

Most teams end up playing between 50-70 games each season.
